  Repent! Believe in Jesus
He is the one for me
  As for the non-believers,
  I'll slit their throat
  No sympathy

I am so glad you joined us
  You're now our special friend
Your body sure will please us

  Hallelujah sexy
  Teacher, what is right?
  You can me father
  Daddy if you like
  Call out to God
  Then he can see
All of His power and his glory
  Hallelujah sexy
  So divine!

  This is your life forever
  Oh sweet stability
  I am your humble shepherd
  So shut your mouth and
  Walk with me

  Each day I'll add another
  But don't feel jealousy
  I'll team you up together
  We'll make a lovely trinity

  Hallelujah sexy
  Teacher, what is right?
  You can me father
  Daddy if you like
  Call out to God
  Then he can see
All of His power and his glory
  Hallelujah sexy
  So divine!

  Repent! Believe in Jesus

  Hallelujah sexy
  Teacher, what is right?
  You can me father
  Daddy if you like
  Call out to God
  Then he can see
All of His power and his glory
  Hallelujah sexy
  So divine!

  Repent! Believe in Jesus
  Repent! Believe in Jesus
  Repent! Believe in Jesus
  Repent! Believe in Jesus

  Scoobert Doobert DOOOOOOOO
And I would've gotten away with it too
If it weren't for those meddling kids
  And their dog

  (Joshu's dog?)

Track four on [*Finding $D*](/albums/finding-d-remastered/), Luke solo; [every song on the LP](/albums/finding-d-remastered/) was written, recorded, mixed, and mastered in a single day (May 2017), remastered 2018. Luke wrote it after passing a freeway overpass banner reading *Repent! Believe in Jesus*, which became the seed for a piece of **cult-gospel satire**. He broke a guitar string during the solo and kept it on the recording.

The song builds a predatory church from scratch. The banner's *Repent! Believe in Jesus* curdles fast into *I'll slit their throat / no sympathy*: public piety and private cruelty in four lines. The welcome (*you're now our special friend / your body sure will please us*) is recruitment as predation, and the revival chorus runs on a daddy/father/teacher stack, *hallelujah sexy... so divine!*, a Leonard Cohen cadence twisted out of shape. The control doctrine sells permanence as *sweet stability* and dresses polygamous cult math as a *lovely trinity*.

Then the outro yanks the mask off, turning the whole sermon into a villain caught red-handed, and the title lands. The parenthetical *(Joshu's dog?)* nods to a collaborator while smuggling in a Zen koan.

Same debut lab as [*What a Velma What a Night*](/songs/what-a-velma-what-a-night/) and [*My Friend, Scoobert*](/songs/my-friend-scoobert/), a comic frame thrown over real horror before the [*$WAMI$*](/albums/wami/) lore dump. Leads into [*Damned*](/songs/damned/), and pairs with [*Friend*](/songs/friend/) (FEiN's remake of *My Friend, Scoobert*) as religious and political dread in different registers.
