One look and you got me
  Waving to you sheeply
  Gotta be confident
  Let's go let's go
  Be confident

  Small talk about family
Hopes and dreams and pet peeves
  Finally you laugh
  You laugh
  Oh finally

  Shaking off the nervousness
  LIke leaves in the winter

Dreaming of a moment just like this
  Yeah just like this

  Let's go for a walk
  Out on the sand
  I'm not ready to stop
  Don't want it to end

We can never have a first date again
  Never have another first impression
Don't wanna let our first date again

  Let's go for a walk
  On the sand
  A bioluminescent glow
  You never know

This could be our last first date
Could be our last first date
Could be our last first date

  You never know
  You never know
  You never know
  No no no no
  You never know
  oh

  Dancing in a basement
  Shoegaze shuffling awkwardly
  Gotta be confident
  Let's go let's go
  Be in the moment

  Holding hands by the water
High heart rate Apple Watch alert
  And finally a kiss
  Your kiss
  Oh finally

  Shaking off the nervousness
  Like sakura in summer

Dream of a moment just like this
  Yeah just like this

  Let's go for a walk
  Out on the sand
  I'm not ready to stop
  Don't want it to end

We can never have a first date again
  Never have another first impression
Don't wanna let our first date again

  Let's go for a walk
  On the sand
  A bioluminescent glow
  You never know
  Ooo

This could be our last first date
Could be our last first date
Could be our last first date

  You never know
  You never know
  You never know
  No no no no
  You never know
  oh

Non-album standalone single (**June 28, 2024** · Beformer), not on [*I*](/albums/i/), [*US*](/albums/us/), or any LP tracklist. Luke's note: **written about the day he met his wife.**

It's all first-date physics, a *sheeply* wave, *gotta be confident* on loop, small talk through family and pet peeves until *finally you laugh*. Then the beach: a sand walk, a bioluminescent glow, nervousness shaking off *like leaves in the winter*, later *like sakura in summer*. The detail that dates it perfectly is the *high heart rate Apple Watch alert* right before the kiss.

The title carries the whole idea: *we can never have a first date again*, never another first impression, so *this could be our last first date*, the only one you'll get with this person, treat it like it matters. The cycle repeats because memory does. Same relational lane as [*chasing the sunset*](/songs/chasing-the-sunset/) and [*Dancing Alone*](/songs/dancing-alone/), but origin story rather than distance. See: [Catalog](/catalog/).
