lyrics: |
  When I first laid
  My eyes on you
I knew you were the one
Simply by the way you move
Your soul kissed by the sun
I feel on top of the world
  Won't you tell me
  If I'm wrong
Cause I don't wanna be right
The way you make me feel
Is like my perfect dream to life

  I seen the light
And I don't want to fight it
  I just can't hide it
  But baby would you

  Hold up
  You're looking kinda pretty
And your body keep on saying
  Hold up
I gotta clean up my mind
  Oh won't ya
  Hold up
I got a feeling that we're meeting for a reason
  So hold up
  You gotta hold up

Now that I've made a move
You think we can get out and run
Journey through the night until we find
  This thing called love

Gonna trust in my whole spirit
  Telling me things like
  You don't have to worry
So could you ever trust me
  And share a perfect life

  I seen the light
And I don't want to fight it
  I just can't hide it
  But baby would you

  Hold up
  You're looking kinda pretty
And your body keep on saying
  Hold up
I gotta clean up my mind
  Oh won't ya
  Hold up
I got a feeling that we're meeting for a reason
  So hold up
  You gotta hold up

Track fifteen on [*Big Hug*](/albums/big-hug/), co-written and performed with **J MESA** (Taylor James / Babidi), the second *Big Hug* collab with him after [*I See the Moment*](/songs/i-see-the-moment/) (*I See the Monument* on Bandcamp). Same orbit as [*Masks and Monsters*](/albums/masks-and-monsters/) and later [*Prisoner*](/songs/prisoner/) (2024).

It opens classic and willingly deluded, *I knew you were the one simply by the way you move*, then *won't you tell me if I'm wrong cause I don't wanna be right*. The hook turns that rush into a brake: the title *hold up* is both the flirt (*your body keep on saying hold up*) and the self-check (*I gotta clean up my mind*), attraction running faster than readiness, destiny and hesitation in the same line. The back half makes the move anyway, a journey *until we find this thing called love*, and asks for trust to *share a perfect life*.

Lighter than [*I See the Moment*](/songs/i-see-the-moment/)'s media dread, the LP's romantic register just before the title track. J MESA carries the Babidi lineage from the cartoon-era collabs into post-pandemic approachable pop.
