lyrics: |
  He's a motherfuckin senator
Telling me to live in the real world
Rome is fallen, God is dead
  Our water's filled with lead
  What a fine world
  He's a tyrant loving elephant
  Ivory is a worthy commodity
  Arjuna, don't kill again
Baby, steel your mind against deities

  Hangin on, I barely am
  I could use a friend
Not alone, though I know I am
  Would you hold my hand
If we could love, then we could be friends
If we could love, then we all could be friends
If we could love, then we could be friends
If we could love, then we all could be friends

  He's the model of minority
Saying we should round up and shoot em
History of sodomy, negotiate the right to my body

  Hangin on, I barely am
  I could use a friend
Not alone, though I know I am
  Would you hold my hand
If we could love, then we could be friends
If we could love, then we all could be friends
If we could love, then we could be friends
If we could love, then we all could be friends

**FEiN** single (**June 27, 2018**), the same song as [*My Friend, Scoobert*](/songs/my-friend-scoobert/) on [*Finding $D*](/albums/finding-d-remastered/) (**2017**), retitled and rerecorded in FEiN's theatrical pop register. Luke Francis Walton's lyrics first; **Brandon Michael Woodward** on the duo recording. No Scoobert in the title, the cartoon friend becomes plain *Friend*.

Same political skeleton as the debut: the *motherfuckin senator*, the *tyrant loving elephant*, *Arjuna, don't kill again*, *negotiate the right to my body*. FEiN trims the *pressing silence* middle and the *will you be my friend* tag so the chorus folds straight into *if we could love, then we could be friends*.

What changes is delivery: two voices, roughly two minutes, a pop-rock arrangement instead of Scoobert bedroom chaos. The loneliness is the same (*hangin on, I barely am / not alone, though I know I am*), just a cleaner line, with *steel* corrected from *steal* on deities.

Origin chain: **Finding $D** (solo lab notebook) → **FEiN Friend** (2018 single) → live *My Friend, Scoobert* on *Live from the Void* (2020). Same lyricist throughout; FEiN is the early duo pass at a song that already existed.
