lyrics: |
One shot lovers in the back of a room,
Wonderin' if they can make it.
The scene's alright, but pretty soon,
Some stupid thing will just go 'n break it.

Why can't life just roll along?
And stop my world from goin' wrong?
Just when I thought time was standin' still,
Was no time to see what our hearts could feel.
  I'm gettin' real tired of,
  This dead end love.

From the skyline fall inklings of love,
  Coverin' the earth around 'em.
Face to face with what they're dreaming of,
She realizes she doesn't want him.

Why can't life just roll along?
And stop my world from goin' wrong?
Just when I thought time was standin' still,
Was no time to see what our hearts could feel.
  I'm gettin' real tired of,
  This dead end love.

Why can't life just roll along?
And stop my world from goin' wrong?
Just when I thought time was standin' still,
Was no time to see what our hearts could feel.
  I'm gettin' real tired of,
  This dead end love.

Track four on [*Heart in Hand*](/albums/heart-in-hand/) (**2008** solo EP) and track five on [*Goodbye/Hello*](/albums/goodbye-hello/) (**September 1, 2010**). Lyrics per [Dead End Love lyrics archive](https://web.archive.org/web/20120423002356/http://www.lukewaltonband.com/site/Dead_End_Love_Lyrics.html), same text on both releases. First on the 2008 EP per [CDs & Lyrics](https://web.archive.org/web/20110714002356/http://lukewaltonband.com/site/CDs_and_Lyrics.html); reissued on the Luke Walton Band LP after the December 2008 YouTube push.

The setup is small and cinematic: *one shot lovers in the back of a room*, wondering if they can make it. The scene is *alright*, that word does a lot of work, not great, just sufficient: until *some stupid thing* breaks it. Not tragedy, not fate, just the ordinary sabotage of young romance.

The chorus asks life to *roll along* and stop the world from going wrong, then admits the real wound: *just when I thought time was standin' still / was no time to see what our hearts could feel*. You mistook pause for possibility. Verse two widens the frame: *from the skyline fall inklings of love*: then narrows to the reversal: *face to face with what they're dreaming of, she realizes she doesn't want him*. The title lands as exhaustion, not drama: *I'm gettin' real tired of this dead end love.*
