  [R.E.S.P.E.CUL8R (little bird)
  by Annie & Mae]

  Keep on talking,
  No one cares.
  Fat tongue floppin
  ,
  Sewn up ears
  .
  Blue
  vein
  s
  a
  -
  poppin
  ,
  Sum of your years
  .
  Knock me out,
  Swing the hammer,
  Knock me out,
  Pull the trigger
  ,
  Knock me out,
  Leave no
  trace here,
  Of me now.
  I said, knock me out.

  Complicate it,
  Keep it up,
  B
  ury me in words,
If you think that I deserve
  it
  .
  Imitate the sounds you've heard,
  And
  sing, you little bird.
  I think that you deserve
  it
  .

  There's a
  caved
  -
  in roof,
  water everywhere,
  Drenches
  my face,
  creatures
  all in my hair.
  My brainstem
  burning like a car
  fire.
Chained up bodies in the back of the room,
  Won't ya d
  o as I say but don't ya
  do as I do.
  Save me pweez.

  Knock me out,
  Swing the hammer,
  Knock me out,
  Pull the trigger,
  Knock me out,
  Leave no trace here,
  Of me now.
  I said, knock me out.

  Complicate it,
  Keep it up,
  Bury me in words,
If you think that I deserve
  it
  .
  Imitate the sounds you've heard,
  And sing, you
  r
  little bird
  songs,
I think that you deserve it.

  Close
  out
  Close,
  I
  d
  on't want you to elaborate
  ,
  You're killing me
  ,
  You're killing me, ah
  .

Track seven on [*Little Homes*](/albums/little-homes-fein/) (**May 31, 2016**), after [*Goodness Gracious*](/songs/goodness-gracious/). [SoundCloud](https://soundcloud.com/feinmusic/creatures). Walton/Woodward co-write. It opens with a credited interlude, R.E.S.P.E.C.U.L8R (little bird) by Annie & Mae, which seeds the bird motif the song then turns cruel.

This is the darkest cut on the LP's first half. The chorus is a wish for self-erasure phrased as a favor: *knock me out, swing the hammer, pull the trigger, leave no trace here of me now.* Around it runs a sermon on hollow language: *bury me in words if you think that I deserve it / imitate the sounds you've heard, and sing, you little bird*, the listener reduced to a parrot. The bridge floods the little home outright, *caved-in roof, water everywhere, creatures all in my hair*, with *chained up bodies in the back of the room* and the hypocrite's creed *do as I say but don't ya do as I do*, before the whole thing buckles into a child's voice: *save me pweez.* The outro makes the point literal, talk itself as the weapon: *I don't want you to elaborate, you're killing me.*

Where BMI hears gun worship on [*American Man*](/songs/american-man/), here the trigger points inward. Before [*Intro*](/songs/little-homes-intro/) (track eight); [*Twenty-Three*](/songs/twenty-three/) follows.
