lyrics: |
  I rush, bag in hand,
  Straight to my gate
(Six hours til I see you)
  Glance up at the screen
  Flights been delayed
(Nine hours til I see you)
  Back row window seat
  Start counting sheep

But as I'm flying through the air to you
  I know
this trip will only last a week or two
There in your arms, then back from where I came
Spun back and forth just like a boomerang,
  I wanna stay,
  I wanna stay,
  I wanna stay,
  But I'm a boomerang
  Always in motion.

  Cold wind numbs my face
  As I sit on my
  suitcase
(ten minutes til I see you)
  Pull up to the curb
  Heart starts to race
(step in the car to greet you)
  we kiss, feels like home
  wherever we are
but as I'm lyin in this bed with you
I know this trip will only last a week or two
  Here in your arms
  I
  wanna stay

**Boomerang (with FEiN)**: **February 1, 2016** single by **Nina Francis** and **FEiN** ([Bandcamp](https://ninafrancismusic.bandcamp.com/track/boomerang-with-fein)). **Written by Nina Francis and FEiN** (Luke Francis Walton, Brandon Woodward); **arranged, recorded, and produced by FEiN** at **Tiny Giant Recording**; bass **[Brian Robert Jones](/with/brian-robert-jones/)**; mixed/mastered [Frank Rosato](/with/frank-rosato/). USC orbit collab: [San Diego Troubadour](https://sandiegotroubadour.com/nina-francis-a-new-girl-in-the-garden-2/) (Apr 2016): Francis and FEiN met at USC; local radio 91X and 94.9 spun the single.

Walton **co-wrote** Boomerang; did **not** write [*Between Dreams*](/albums/between-dreams/) (2017 production only). The USC connection predates both: [Neon Tommy](https://www.neontommy.com/news/2014/04/usc-thorntons-pop-showcase-highlights-seniors-troubadour.html) on the April 2014 Thornton Pop Showcase at the Troubadour lists **FEiN**, **Nina Francis**, and **Nick Belcher** on the same senior lineup. Not on [*Little Homes*](/albums/little-homes-fein/); a FEiN **collab** alongside [*Marry You On the Dance Floor*](/songs/marry-you-on-the-dance-floor/). [With Nina Francis](/with/nina-francis/).

Long distance as physics. The verses run on departure arithmetic, the parenthetical countdowns (*six hours til I see you*, then *nine* once the flight slips) stretching the absence before it even begins. Home gets measured in visit length: *this trip will only last a week or two*.

The title turns that motion into an identity the narrator can't shake. *Spun back and forth just like a boomerang*, the want is plain and repeated (*I wanna stay*) but overruled by the return arc built into the trip. Opposite of [*Roadtrip*](/songs/roadtrip/) (*doesn't really matter anyway*): here the narrator wants the little home to stick. Pairs with [*Out of My Mind*](/songs/out-of-my-mind/) (can't leave the ex in memory).
