lyrics: |
All that I need, all that I need
All that I need, all that I need
  Wake up again
  In my tiny apartment
  I'm doom doom doom
  Doom doomscrolling Zillow
The nearest place I can ill afford
  Is in Mexico
  Ooo

  I'm an American
  Always wanting, wanting, wanting
  Mr. American
Fast cars, nice things, diamond rings
  Cutting-edge technology
  Always forgetting to be happy

Cause I got all that I need
I got all that I need
Oo, I got all that I need
I got all that I need

  Wake up again
  With my best friend
  Grow a little garden
Strolling down the rich people's street
Break into their private beach like
  Dancing in the sunlight
  Oh, the places we'll go

  I'm an American
  Always wanting, wanting, wanting
  Mr. American
Fast cars, nice things, diamond rings
  Cutting-edge technology
  Always forgetting to be happy

Cause I got all that I need
I got all that I need
Oo, I got all that I need
I got all that I need

My teenage self would probably be
Disappointed in me but then again
He was an idiot, oh, woah oh oh oh
My teenage self and I disagree
On what it means to be happy
But then again I am an idiot
  Oh, woah oh oh oh

  I'm an American
  Always wanting, wanting, wanting
  Mr. American
Fast cars, nice things, diamond rings
  Cutting-edge technology
  Always forgetting to be happy

Cause I got all that I need
I got all that I need
Oo, I got all that I need
I got all that I need
I got all that I need

Track eleven, the [*MÖB*](/albums/mob/) closer. After illness, mania, bowling, and Gemini duality, the record lands on **enough**.

Two wake-ups, same bed, different inventory. One is the American housing loop in miniature (tiny apartment, Zillow doomscroll, the nearest place you can *ill* afford is in another country); the other is the counter-life of a best friend, a garden, and breaking into the rich people's private beach. Between them sits the satire hook, **Mr. American**, always wanting fast cars and diamond rings and *always forgetting to be happy*. The chorus refuses to resolve it. *I got all that I need* reads as gratitude and irony at once, the Möbius move of the wanting loop and the enough loop in one mouth.

The bridge stages the self-dispute: the teenage self is disappointed, but *he was an idiot*, and they can't agree on what happiness means, but *I am an idiot* too. Neither gets the last word. The album repeats the chorus anyway, because survival sometimes means singing *enough* until it sticks.
