I'm not gonna work another day here

Give me one good reason I should stay here
Working every weekend ima die here
  Probably wearing company attire
  40 years till I retire

My boss say he want us in the office
At home yeah he really cannot trust us
He cut my hourly to cover losses
While I sat in the traffic

I'm not gonna work another day here
  I made up my mind
  And now I'm gonna disappear
Imma sit my ass on the beach
  Feel the sand under me
Been so long since I chilled on a Monday

Never gonna work another day here
I'm feeling so free watching money disappear
Imma sit my ass on the beach
  With my whole family
  No I'm not gonna work
  Not gonna work
  Nah nah
  No I'm not gonna work
  Not gonna work
  Nah nah
No I'm not gonna work, no

I'm deleting all of your apps from my phone
  No Outlook or Teams
  Yeah you'll leave me alone
  Ima Pavlovian dog
  With notification tones

  But imma silence my phone
  Yeah I'll silence my phone
And you gon leave me alone
Cuz I will silence my phone

I'm not gonna work another day here
  I made up my mind
  And now I'm gonna disappear
Imma sit my ass on the beach
  Feel the sand under me
Been so long since I chilled on a Monday

Never gonna work another day here
I'm feeling so free watching money disappear
Imma sit my ass on the beach
  With my whole family
  No I'm not gonna work
  Not gonna work
  Nah nah
  No I'm not gonna work
  Not gonna work
  Nah nah
No I'm not gonna work, no

  I'm not gonna work
  Not gonna work
  Nah nah

Track eight on [*KŌAN*](/albums/koan/), on **KŌAN B** (May 2022) and the full LP. Also a standalone single. The title does the job: this is the song you play when you're done.

It runs the resignation in plain language, from the spreadsheet nightmare (*40 years till I retire*) through COVID-office politics (boss wants bodies back, *cut my hourly to cover losses while I sat in the traffic*) to the beach. The honest twist is in the second hook, *I'm feeling so free watching money disappear,* freedom and financial panic in the same breath, and *with my whole family* turns it from solo escape to household dream. The bridge is digital detox, the corporate leash as software: *no Outlook or Teams, ima Pavlovian dog with notification tones,* until *imma silence my phone* locks out both the boss and the algorithm.

Same beach-Monday register as [*JAZZ FLUTE*](/songs/jazz-flute/) (*ain't got shit to do*) and a preview of [*Moonlight Beach*](/albums/moonlight-beach/), Encinitas as the place you quit toward, not just a vacation. Pairs with [*4:20 pm*](/songs/4-20-pm/), another permission-to-stop-worrying clock, on the full LP.

**[360° music video + spatial audio](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIHcBx5EkEI)** with [Max Horwich](/with/max-horwich/), also on [/music/#selected-videos](/music/#selected-videos).

**Spotify editorial:** [The New LoFi](https://thenewlofi.com/scoobert-dooberts-new-single-is-a-breezy-indie-pop-hug-that-questions-our-modern-way-of-life/) documents the Jan. 7, 2022 release on Spotify official playlists **Fresh Finds**, **Fresh Finds Pop**, and **Indie Brandneu**; [@beformer confirmed Indie Brandneu](https://www.instagram.com/p/CYfMHBHv5i1/) the next day (between Pinegrove and Broken Social Scene).
