  Bad days are ahead
It's looking brighter on the horizon
  Cuz 2020's over
  Yeah 2020's over
  Turn up

A man can only take so much abuse
  I'll never soma holiday
I am an ape clutching at a rock
  I am an ape

  An animal I am
  An animal I'll be

A man can only take so much

  Get to it
  Get to it

  Bad days are ahead
It's looking brighter on the horizon
  Cuz 2020's over
  Yeah 2020's over
  Turn up

  Optimistic frozen carrion
I eat my crow with egg and ham
Assault on all you deem is alien
  A 21st centurion

  Get to it
  Get to it

  Bad days are ahead
It's looking brighter on the horizon
  Cuz 2020's over
  Yeah 2020's over
  Turn up

Standalone single (**December 1, 2020**), not on [*Masks and Monsters*](/albums/masks-and-monsters/) (August 2020) but the same pandemic season. A live version appears on *Live from the Void* (2021). Distinct from MMM's track four, [*When It's Over*](/songs/when-its-over/): different song, same year-end neighborhood.

The chorus is blunt catharsis. It admits *bad days are ahead* without pretending the future is easy, and still calls 2020 done. *Turn up* is a command to yourself.

Underneath runs a survival inventory: an ape clutching at a rock, *I'll never soma holiday* (no chemical escape, stay awake to it), and the joke at its darkest, *I eat my crow with egg and ham*. Breakfast plated on top of humble pie. Less resolution, more momentum.
